The 2000 Census reported a population of almost 88,000 and it is speculated that the 2010 Census will reveal a population of 100,000 or greater for the urbanized area. The last amendment to the boundaries of the MPO area was made in June 1998 to include newly annexed portions of the City of San Angelo.
